Take me to church: Notre Dame reopening thanks to craftspeople

Notre Dame Cathedral reopened to the public earlier this month, following an ambitious five years of repairs and restoration of damage after the 2019 fire that shocked and saddened us all.

Besides being an active worship site even after centuries, Notre Dame is a Parisian icon and a stunning example of centuries of architecture, craftsmanship, and fine art.

We were so grateful for Youtube, and especially the coverage of the restoration and reopening ceremonies from France24 (France's answer to PBS).

Exactly how do modern trades restore a massive medieval church?!

It was so interesting to get to virtually visit some of the French artisans who worked on the restoration.

And nice to see some of the international (including from the US) craftspeople who pitched in as well.

We especially like this piece highlighting the women professionals who led teams and contributed massively to the work on Notre Dame reopening.

Did you watch the Notre Dame reopening ceremony?

Our national treasure Yo-Yo Ma graced the event with his beautiful cello.

To dive in to all the gorgeous gothic details, we recommend France24's coverage over the five-year reconstruction, all located here.
