It takes a village: Sharing non-toxic home cleaning products for Earth Day

Hey there, this is a personal note from Allie, chief cook and bottle washer here at Green Doors.

Environmental justice is something that I'm really passionate about. When you live in a small state like Connecticut, it's hard to ignore the fact that a lot of highways and industrial infrastructure are placed right next to low-income neighborhoods.

And those neighborhoods don't have easy access to a variety of choices when it comes to weekly shopping for groceries and household supplies.

Before I started Green Doors Home, I was certified with Wellness Within Your Walls, which helps families and developers choose materials and products that are safe for both humans and the environment. This training gave me the tools to try to address some of the health and ecological issues I see in my community every day.

Non-toxic home products: good for everyone

Choosing non-toxic, refillable cleaners is so important for all of us-- but especially for low-income families. Safe, refillable products can help decrease asthma triggers in the home, as well as save money. And switching from single use products keeps plastics out of our groundwater, oceans, and soils.

Hartford has some of the highest child asthma rates in the US, and this is just one way we can keep the next generation safe, healthy, and engaged in finding solutions to regenerate the environment and revitalize the city.

In honor of Earth Day, we have a special event all week here at Green Doors.

To help you help us help our neighbors, our EcoKind Kits are 12% off this week, from today, Sunday, April 21, through Saturday, April 27!

Thank you in advance for helping me introduce my neighbors to safer non-toxic home products, for their families and for the environment. It takes a village. (On that note, please share this event on your socials!)

Celebrating ecology and community with you!
